"cake wrecks"

So here's my latest favorite website - the night I discovered it, I was laughing so hard that I was literally hyperventilating. :) Chris thought someone had died because when he came home that night, I had tears running down my face and I couldn't talk. :) It's a site that showcases all of the truly ridiculous things that cake decorators put on their creations.... enjoy!! Some are just ridiculous spelling errors, some are obviously just dumb oversights, and SO many are of the directions that people gave to the decorators that were misinterpreted to actually be part of the decor. :)

what?!

hahaha... can you guess what the heck this is supposed to be?! it's a helicopter seen from the ground. :) heeeee.

is this not the creepiest, freakiest winnie the poo you've ever seen?

mmmm.... frosting cake turd. :)

Happy Birthday! Bring it in the a.m. Yeah... that's definitely what the person ordering wanted ON their cake. *sigh*

creepy...

is it just me, or do those baseball bats look like giant poo?

Nuts allergy! Glad it's been announced on the cake. :)

mmmm. dead animal on the cake. nice.

okay, so I can see how these puppy-head-cupcakes were supposed to be cute... but i think they're mostly just disturbing!

can you tell what this is supposed to be? a clam? a butterfly? lips? nope - ballet shoes. :)

I'm sure that all that text on the right side of the cake was definitely meant to be there. o_O how can you be that DENSE?!?

I'm sorry... this one is just WRONG.

yummy.

To the future!!... the far, far, FAR distant future. :)

*gag* nasty.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No - it's SUPER BOWEL!!!! Go go go! Dispose of that waste!!! :)

Ummm... right.

Wow... if only the delete key applied to cakes. :)

Yes, please! Huge me!

AHHHHHH!!!! the creepiest baby EVER. if you squint, it's a man wearing a wifebeater with a blue fro. heeeee.

Adam with Blue Flowers, I am so glad it is your birthday. :) Many happy returns! hahahaa... WOW.

Why yes, it is! Thank you ever so much for pointing that out to me. I'm pretty sure that the reason they didn't use the contraction is because people are always so terrible at remembering whether or not the apostrophe should be used. *sigh* For the record, as a dorky English major: "its" is the possessive form - so "Its cake is ruined" is correct. if you could replace it with "it is," then use It's! so "It's a boy!" is correct. *sigh* i can't help myself.

The description on this cake said that these nasty brownish red things are supposed to be crawfish. *gag* there are a LOT of problems with this cake... not the least being the fact that there are CRAWFISH on a wedding cake... but that these crawfish look like a combination of ants and male genitalia. I'm sorry... this is just SO wrong.

Wow. I've been staring at this so long, letting it melt my brain, that I literally can't remember how to spell the word correctly. it just took me about 10 tries to spell "volunteer" right. :) nice. i've been brainwashed by the cake.

Wooo! Welcome Hump, Margaret!! hahaha.

update!

So here's all the latest wild and craziness at the Duncan's.....

1. Meet Dex, the sweetest, most adorable dog EVER! We've LOVED him. He's really smart (he's brilliant with playing fetch!), snuggly (he sleeps in between Chris and I with his head on my pillow and his paws around my neck), and just all-around lovable! He's definitely a puppy - playful and friendly with everybody. :) He gets a little nervous around new people, but it usually only takes a minute for him to warm up! The red toy in the third photo is is favorite - it's called a Kong, and it's hard, hollow rubber that we fill up with treats and peanut butter... keeps him occupied for hours. :)

2. Here's a pic of our new CR-V that we LOOOOOOOOVE. :)

quick update....

Okay, so here's what's been going on in the Duncan household!

1. We adopted out Tollhouse, our adorable black and white guinea pig, last night. Sad, but he is going to a home where the family has THIRTEEN other piggies, several chinchillas, rats, and dogs. I think he'll be well loved, and will get LOTS of human attention! One down, two to go.

2. We bought a new car. hahaha... yeah. :) We weren't even really seriously considering it... but after a big fat tax return and a random occurrence that led to us finding out about a really good deal... yup! Our new 2000 CR-V SE that's a little old lady in color (kind of a gold tan thing), but a beefy little chunk under the hood. :) It's gorgeous inside... all leather interior, power everything, and has SO much room! It has been taken care of so well that it seems at least five years newer than it really is. Amazing amazing. We're super excited. :)

3. Chris is trucking away at work... he's kicking butt over there, and staying incredibly busy! Delorum may have just landed a new big name client, so he'll be pulling lots of 12-16 hour days, but with paid overtime I'm willing to sacrifice him (also, since he's just across the street, I can just go sit on their nasty couch and hang out with him late at night!). Woooo! Thank goodness for awesome jobs.

4. I'm staying busy at school - working hard, excited to graduate. Nothing new there. o_O

5. We'll be getting a new member of our family in two weeks! (haha... scared you there - nope, not prego! whew.) We are adopting Tucker, a beautiful Jack Russell/Basset Hound mix on Thursday the 18th. :) He's 9 months old and acts almost exactly like Sadie, the hilarious dog that attacks us with copious amounts of love every time we go back to his parents' house. :) He has a pink belly, white fur with black spots on his back, and the coloring of a Jack Russell on his head... plus the basset hound ears. :) Adorable! We went to look at him and fell in love instantly... we'll be posting pictures as soon as we get him! Yay!

6. Anyway.... I think that's all. Does anybody even read this blog? I kind of doubt it... but I figure it's a good way for me to mildly assuage my guilt over not keeping a physical journal...

guinea piggies...

so we've been thinking that we should probably start looking for a better home for our three adorable little piggies... and it makes me really sad. :( we love them and feed them and take care of them, but i think they might just thrive in a home where people play with them a lot more... i think they need more human interaction than we can give them. *sigh* it makes me sad, because as much as i love them, and as attached as i am to them... i don't think we're loving them the way we should. :( and part of that's our problem, and part of it is just by nature of their species... we can't let them run free because they poo/pee everywhere (and they're easily stepped on!), and so we can't really give them enough attention out of the cage because when we do, it has to be 100%, 24/7 - and as working students, 100%, 24/7 is not really an option.

the problem is, i refuse to just hand them over to the first person who says "gee, i've always wanted a guinea pig!" because i'm crazy, i did a TON of research on guinea pigs when we first bought them, and i feel like we take a lot better care of them than most people would... they have a MASSIVE cage (i think, for the three of them, the cage totals something like 20 sq. feet or something), they're incredibly well fed (and fat!), and we take good care of their health. seriously. when hershey got this funky skin disease, i actually gave him a SHOT every single day for a week until he was better!!! it was traumatic... for both hershey and i. o_O

so yeah.... i'm torn, because as much as i love them, i want them to go to a better home. however, i'm not sure if we're going to be able to even FIND a home that's better for them - maybe one where they get more human interaction, but probably won't have a cage as huge as ours... or there'll be little kids who abandon/torture/neglect them. o_O

so any ideas/suggestions? know any nice people looking for 1 or 2 or 3 piggies?

*sigh*

ode to my cell phone...

so last week i had to retire my old cell phone... a tragedy. we call it our marriage phone because i've had it almost the entire duration of our marriage!

so, in honor of my dearly departed cell, here are some of my FAVORITE photos from the last 2+ years. sorry - there's a ton of photos, but... at least i didn't post ALL of the photos on my phone!!!! :)

this is the funniest thing I've ever seen at DI. :) i really, REALLY wanted to buy it... but it just didn't go with our home decor. :) heh...

This is my awesome Dark Mark that I drew to go with my Bellatrix Lestrange costume for Halloween. :)

The insurance agent whose office was next door to our first apartment... what an unfortunate last name, eh? How exactly do you pronounce it?

Chris and his first true love... :)

We did this to my dad while he was taking a nap on our couch... my sister and I grabbed our nail polish, and attacked his toes. :) hee!

This is one thing I learned during my internship the summer after we got married.... I had very little to do during the internship, so one thing I taught myself was to french braid my hair. *sigh* useful, eh?

Sadie is possibly the most hilarious, adorable dog ever. :) How can you not love this face??

My husband sure is sexy, eh? He and Patrick Dempsey make a lovely couple. :)

A freakin awesome hat I tried on in Alaska!

Another Alaska pic - this is a moose (duh), in the middle of a grocery store parking lot. hee!

There was a chapel made entirely out of ice in Alaska... and I decided to try it out... (no, I'm not actually licking it)

Before we moved from our apartment at Appletree, I wrote this on the inside of our closet door near the floor... just so we could leave a little of ourselves there. :) I'm hoping that the current tenants find it and continue the tradition!

Our little baby chicks - before they grew HUGE and started laying yummy eggs!!! :) The one on the left had a "blocked vent" - basically, poo had solidified over its poo-hole so it couldn't poo. :( We performed "surgery" and she actually survived! We're amazing. :)

First photo, the first day in our new house!!!!

Little puppy Ellie, on the drive home after my parents bought her. :) SO CUTE!!! (note: she peed on my lap, and also in the back window of the car before we got home... heehee)

Although you probably can't read it, this stick note says "Design Something." It was from my graphic design job - my advisor left this for me when she was absent for a few days. Seriously?!?! Design "SOMETHING"?!? What the heck?! A poster? Sticker? Place mat? Brochure? Ridiculous.

And my personal favorite... this is Chris and I, applying for our marriage license. :) AWWWWW!!!!!

my insanely adorable nieces and nephews....

so i'm LOVING being an auntie... i think it's pretty much the coolest thing EVER. and, since there isn't a TON to blog about lately, i figured i'd dedicate a post to a few of the photos i've taken of my ridiculously adorable nieces and nephews!! amelia is the oldest, then natalie, then jack, then dave, then asher. (two of jack and asher because i just couldn't decide which one to post! they're both too adorable!)

Amelia

Natalie

Jack (eating his monkey!)

Jack (trying to escape after a diaper change or bath, I can't remember which... SO cute!!)

Baby Dave, staying snuggly in his car seat that matches his big beautiful baby blues!

Baby Asher, dreaming of breastmilk... :)

Baby Asher, with the stuffed snake that Kristen (my sister) made for him... posed by me. :)
